It is true that South African sockets are different from European ones. Traditionally, South Africa uses the Type M plug (with three thick round pins), while in Europe Type C, E and F are usually used.
In recent years, more and more outlets are being installed in South Africa that also accept European plugs, especially in new buildings and renovated accommodations. But many hotels, lodges and B&Bs still have the older Type M sockets.
Fortunately, there are affordable travel adapters for sale, which you can easily find in South Africa at supermarkets, hardware stores or at the airport. With these, you can connect your European plug to a South African outlet without any problems.
